OCS Required Paperwork/Items to Bring

Below is the required paperwork needed for each student reporting to Officer Training Command Newport (OTCN).  Foreign documents not in English must be officially translated into English by an official translator or translation company.  All documents must be original or court certified copies.  No notarized documents allowed. You will receive all paperwork turned in to us back at the end of the course.

If you are married, it is recommended that you provide your spouse with a Power of Attorney prior to reporting to OTCN to decrease the original documentation you are required to bring for DEERS enrollment (see comments below).  You will have the opportunity to generate a Military Power of Attorney with the Command Legal Officer free of charge after reporting to OTCN.

Officer Candidate School Required Paperwork All Students:

  • Permanent Change of Station (PCS) or Reserve Orders and any Modifications
  • Copies of prescriptions from civilian physicians if taking prescription medication. At Minimum 1 weeks’ worth of medication should be hand carried with you.
  • All medical/dental records and immunization records. Military and Civilian.
  • All students are required to bring a voided check to ensure correct set-up of your direct deposit account for your military pay.
  • Original unexpired state or federal issued photo identification
  • Marriage certificate. Original or original court certified copy. 
    (THIS DOCUMENT IS REQUIRED TO ADD A SPOUSE TO DEERS REGARDLESS IF THEY ARE ON THE MEMBERS PAGE TWO OR NOT)
  • Spouse's original unexpired identification card if not already entered into DEERS. (driver's license, state identification, or passport)
  • Birth certificates (original or original court certified copy) and original social security card (no copies) for all dependents if they are not already entered into DEERS.
  • Child custody documents (if applicable)(Original)
  • Divorce documents (if applicable)(Original)
  • Recruiter Contact Information (Name/Phone/Fax and NRD Address)
  • Driver’s License Number, Auto Insurance Policy Number, license plate number, vehicle make/model. (this info is needed only if you drive your vehicle to OCS)
  • All documentation should be originals or the original court certified copy, no notarized copies or photo copies of an original copy will be accepted.  Photo identification and social security cards must be originals and unexpired.

Additional Requirements For Active Navy Members Only:

  • Military Identification Card
  • Proof of all medals, awards and unit citations
  • Transfer EVAL
  • SMART transcripts
  • Page Two (Record of Emergency Data). -It would be acceptable if you re-signed the two copies of the current page 2 on the last page under your previous signature. Your new signature means that there are no changes to the current page 2, and that it is up-to-date. After your new signature, put today's date.

Additional Requirements For Prior Military Service Only:

  • All DD-214's
  • Point Capture Sheet (Reservists only)
  • All DD-368
  • NGB-22 (National Guard only)
  • Page Two (Record of Emergency Data). -It would be acceptable if you re-signed the two copies of the current page 2 on the last page under your previous signature. Your new signature means that there are no changes to the current page 2, and that it is up-to-date. After your new signature, put today's date.
  • Last PSD Point of Contact info (POC Name/Phone/Fax/and Address)

Additional Requirements for Collegiates (BDCP and NUPOC) Only:

  • Military Identification Card
  • Page Two (Record of Emergency Data). - It would be acceptable if you re-signed the two copies of the current page 2 on the last page under your previous signature. Your new signature means that there are no changes to the current page 2, and that it is up-to-date. After your new signature, put today's date.

Other Items:
**Special Dietary and Religious needs must be expressed on the first day of training. OTCN will do everything possible to accommodate all special and religious needs without compromising training.

$300.00 ($10.00 will be collected upon arrival and will pay for your first haircut. The remaining balance will be necessary for miscellaneous expenses.) Candidates should have access to their bank accounts for various expenses throughout training.

Please be advised that due to computer security settings, you will be unable to access most financial institutions while in your first 9 weeks of training. Candidates are expected to have all of their financial responsibilities in order and taken care of during this time period prior to their arrival at Officer Candidate School.

Required Items To Bring:
You will be issued all necessary uniform items upon arrival at OCS. You will also receive a clothing allowance based on your rank (Prior Chief Petty Officers will not receive this, as they have already received an allowance). Below are the items needed to begin training. No more than what is listed should be brought, any excess will be stored.

_ White socks – 7 pairs recommended
_ White underwear, briefs - 7 pairs recommended
_ White towel and washcloth – 1 each at a minimum

– White basic underwear - 10 pair
_ Brassiere NOT sports bra (one brassiere that is white or skin tone to be worn with white uniforms) - 1
_ White Sports Bras
_ Swimsuit, one piece conservative (Black/Navy Blue)
_ White towel and washcloth – 1 each

Additional Items
:
-Glasses (sturdy pair for wear during physical activity with black/brown strap)  You will be issued a government pair of glasses for the first 9 weeks, and then you will be allowed to wear your civilian glasses.
-Contact lenses with solution and supplies Will NOT be authorized until the night prior to Commissioning.

Prior Enlisted:
_ Bring medals (Large), Ribbons, and Warfare Devices. Also, if you have the NWU uniform, bring it along with any other uniform items you may have that transition from enlisted to officer uniforms.

Running Shoes:
Please invest in a quality pair of running shoes less than six months old.  You will be running 10-12 miles per week, depending on where you are in training.  Running is conducted on pavement, so a good pair of shoes is important (recommend 2 pairs).  MINIMALIST SHOES ARE NOT AUTHORIZED AT OCS.

Authorized Items:
_ Alarm Clock, Battery-Operated (No radio function, may be authorized in the 4th week of training.)
_ Cell Phones with charger (may be authorized after the 9th week of training at class teams discretion)
_ Wristwatch (black or silver-colored only) may be authorized after the 9th week of training at class teams discretion)
_ Wallet, Check Book and Bank Card
_ Females only: gold ball stud earrings (authorized in 9th week). All earrings must be 4mm-6mm (approximately 1/8 inch – ¼ inch).  Ball earrings may be plain with shiny or brushed matte finish, screw-on post type.
